Fssai Hygiene Rating Scheme

FSSAI Food Hygiene Rating Scheme is an online, transparent scoring and rating process which aims to allow consumers to make informed choices about the places where they eat out & through these choices, encourage businesses to improve their hygiene standards & thus reduce the incidence of food-borne illness. This Hygiene rating concept is new in India, but has parallels in many countries across the globe. Every country has its own terminologies which explain the idea of ensuring safe and hygienic food in all catering businesses to the general public.

Who Can Enroll?

Food Service Sector (such as Hotels, Restaurants, cafeteria, etc.), Bakeries, Meat Retail Shops and Sweet Retail Shops (Mithai Shops).
HYGIENE RATINGS which will score and rate the FBO on meeting basic requirements ensuring good hygiene practices for all processes including handling raw material, maintaining clean premises, storing food etc.

What is the hygiene rating?
Food hygiene ratings are ratings given to food handling businesses after an inspection has examined how well they comply with FSSAI.

What is the highest food hygiene score?
The hygiene standards found at the time of inspection are rated on a scale of 1-5. 5 means the hygiene standards are up to the mark and fully comply with the regulations. 0 means urgent improvement and changes are necessary.

How do I find out my restaurant hygiene rating?
You can look up food hygiene ratings on the food hygiene rating page on the FSA website. Businesses are given a window sticker showing their rating and are encouraged to display this at their premises in a place where you can easily see it when you visit.

How can I get an FSSAI hygiene rating?

  • 1. Log in using your FoSCoS credentials at: www.fssai.gov.in/hygieneRating/login.
  • 2. Follow Guidelines and complete self-assessment.
  • 3. Generate “hygiene rating” or enroll for “Responsible place to eat”
  • 4. Print self-assessment rating certificate online.
  • 5. Verification of ratings will be done by an FSO (Food Safety officer) from FSSAI via an inspection.
  • 6. Post Inspection, FBO can generate the verified(signed) rating certificate.
  • 7. Enroll for “Responsible place to eat” if the above rating score is 4 (Good ) or more.
